Rimfire Pacific Mining Secures 60% Stake in Avondale Scandium Project
Rimfire Pacific Mining (ASX: RIM) has secured firm commitments for a $3.5 million capital raise to advance its portfolio of scandium discovery global supply in New South Wales, reinforcing its position in Australia's scandium heartland.
Rimfire has successfully secured $3.5 million through a two-tranche placement, issuing approximately 233.3 million shares at $0.015 per share. The capital infusion will fund the company's immediate exploration programs and strengthen its balance sheet as it pursues several high-potential scandium targets.
"The Rimfire team is very pleased to be back in the Fifield district and exploring in Australia's scandium heartland. With the distraction of the arbitration hearing firmly behind us, we look forward to advancing our highly prospective critical minerals assets in partnership with GPR," said Managing Director David Hutton.
The funds will be strategically deployed across Rimfire Pacific Mining scandium projects, all located in New South Wales:
| Project | Ownership Structure | Key Asset Highlights | Near-Term Milestones |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fifield | GPR earning up to 50.1% | Murga North: 21Mt @ 125ppm Sc (4,050t Sc₂O₃) | Mineral Resource Estimate for Murga Exploration Target by Q1 2026 |
| Avondale | GPR earning up to 75% | Melrose: 3Mt @ 240ppm Sc (1,120t Sc₂O₃) | Mineral Resource Estimate for Currajong prospect by end of September 2025 |
| Rabbit Trap | Rimfire 100% | Malamute: Multiple high-grade intercepts including 18m @ 217ppm Sc | Testing of magnetic anomalies by Q1 2026 |
Recent drilling at the Currajong prospect has returned exceptional high-grade gold discovery results, including:
Scandium is a rare earth element that, when added in small amounts to aluminium alloys, creates materials with exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability. These enhanced alloys are increasingly valuable in aerospace, automotive, and defence applications where weight reduction and durability are critical.
While scandium is present throughout the Earth's crust, it rarely concentrates into economically viable deposits. Australia's Fifield district, where Rimfire operates, is one of the few regions globally with significant scandium mineralisation in lateritic deposits formed through weathering of ultramafic rocks.
The market for scandium is currently supply-constrained, with global production estimated at only 15-20 tonnes annually. As new applications emerge and supply increases, industry analysts project significant growth potential for scandium markets.
The capital raise comes following the resolution of arbitration proceedings with exploration partner Golden Plains Resources (GPR). While Rimfire was unsuccessful in its attempt to terminate certain agreements, the company has reset its relationship with GPR and will continue as the manager of both the Fifield and Avondale projects.
This arrangement allows Rimfire Pacific Mining scandium projects to maintain operational control while potentially benefiting from GPR's funding commitments. The company has requested GPR nominate new representatives for the management committees overseeing both projects.
Rimfire presents a compelling investment opportunity in the critical minerals sector for several reasons:
Resource Scale: Combined existing resources and exploration targets suggest potential for over 20,000 tonnes of scandium oxide across the company's project portfolio.
Grade Advantage: Recent drilling results, particularly at Currajong with grades exceeding 500ppm scandium oxide, position Rimfire's assets among the highest-grade scandium resources globally.
Near-Term Catalysts: Multiple resource estimates scheduled over the next 6-9 months provide significant news flow and potential value creation opportunities.
Strategic Metal Focus: As governments worldwide prioritise secure supply chains for critical minerals, Rimfire's focus on scandium aligns with long-term industrial and strategic position rare earth trends.
Management Expertise: The company's technical team has demonstrated success in identifying and advancing scandium resources in the Fifield district.
Rimfire offers exposure to one of the world's premier scandium districts with a clear pathway to advancing multiple deposits simultaneously. With the company now adequately funded and arbitration issues resolved, investors can focus on the significant exploration upside across three complementary projects.
The upcoming mineral resource estimates at Currajong (Q3 2025) and Murga (Q1 2026) represent near-term catalysts that could substantially increase Rimfire's resource inventory. Meanwhile, the 100%-owned Rabbit Trap project provides additional exploration upside with multiple untested magnetic anomalies similar to the Hurricane project gold antimony targets.
As industrial applications for scandium continue to expand in aerospace, automotive, and clean energy sectors, Rimfire Pacific Mining scandium projects is positioning itself to be a significant player in this emerging critical minerals market. Furthermore, the company's promising patronus gold drilling techniques could potentially be applied to optimize extraction methods across their portfolio.
