Volt engages Alabama development body on incentives for US graphite plans
Volt Resources (ASX: VRC) is progressing engagement with economic development organisations in Alabama to explore potential incentives and support for its planned activities in the state. Those activities form part of the company’s US high purity graphite strategy.
As part of that engagement, CEO Dr Prashant Chintawar met Devron A. Veasley, MBA, Director of the Bessemer Industrial Development Board (BIDB). They discussed potential financial incentives, assistance in navigating permitting processes and other local project development requirements.
Local support can matter for a project of this kind, because it could help lower costs and speed up the path to the planned Alabama refinery. The announcement does not state that any incentive has been agreed.

Who is the Bessemer Industrial Development Board?
A local industrial development board helps businesses invest in and build industrial projects in its area. For a developer planning a processing facility, that can mean help with land, tax arrangements and dealing with multiple levels of government.
According to the BIDB, it supports business investment and industrial development in Bessemer, near Birmingham, Alabama. Its stated services and track record include:
- Industrial property development, tax incentive packages and coordination with local, state and federal agencies
- Development of 13 industrial parks
- Advice on the development of more than 200 industrial properties

Permitting and incentive navigation are common hurdles for planned processing facilities. The announcement does not claim Volt has secured any advantage from the meeting.
Building on US$5.4 million funding and a A$1.5 million placement
The engagement follows two recent events, each with its own date and amount.
| Item | Amount | Date announced |
|---|---|---|
| Non-dilutive US Government funding award | US$5.4 million | 15 September 2026 |
| Placement (firm commitments) | A$1.5 million | 13 October 2026 |
The announcement does not disclose the placement’s share price or terms. Volt says it is now focused on converting this funding support into progress on its US high purity graphite strategy.
Its immediate priorities include:
- Finalising the definitive feasibility study (DFS) work
- Progressing the technical, commercial and local development activities required to support its plans in Alabama
A DFS is the detailed study that tests whether a project is technically and commercially viable. Three points of background from the company:
- The DFS is for a High Purity Graphite Refinery in Alabama, planned for completion in Q4 2026.
- A June 2025 Graphite Refinery Scoping Study confirmed strong project economics based on a staged development of refinery capacity.
- Volt Energy Materials LLC, the wholly owned US subsidiary, is headquartered at the Alabama Entrepreneurship Institute at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
