Mongoose–Taipan resource delivers 18% copper boost to Cloncurry project
True North Copper has announced a consolidated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of 11.2 Mt @ 0.76% CuEq for the Mongoose–Taipan deposit, part of the Cloncurry Copper Project (CCP). The update represents a ~49% increase in contained copper at the deposit level and a ~18% increase in contained copper across the broader CCP resource base, with the consolidated estimate feeding directly into the CCP Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) on track for late 2026.
The consolidated resource contains 70 kt Cu, 47 koz Au, and 85 kt CuEq in total, reflecting the addition of approximately 23 kt of contained copper and 19 koz of gold over the previous separate estimates. Resource tonnes grew by roughly 35%, from approximately 8.3 Mt to 11.2 Mt, an increase of around 2.9 Mt.
Managing Director Andrew Mooney
“Our strategy at Cloncurry is focused on building scale, integrating our resources and optimising the development pathway to maximise project value. The updated Mongoose–Taipan Resource demonstrates the value of consolidating these adjacent deposits into a single mineralised system. The new 11.2 Mt @ 0.76% CuEq Resource represents a 49% increase in contained copper and increases contained copper across the broader Cloncurry Copper Project resource base by approximately 18%. Importantly, the larger consolidated Resource provides a more robust technical foundation and greater confidence for mine design and development optimisation. Together with Wallace North, Great Australia and Wynberg, it strengthens the scale and optionality of the Cloncurry Copper Project as we advance the PFS towards defining a technically and economically robust development pathway in late 2026.”

What the Mongoose–Taipan consolidation means for investors
From two deposits to one continuous mineralised system
Previous estimates treated Mongoose and Taipan as two separate, constrained resources because a tenement boundary divided them. TNC’s acquisition of the Mongoose interest, consolidated under the Carpentaria Joint Venture (CJV) with Glencore (TNC controlling ~35% of EPM 8588), removed that constraint.
Geological modelling can now treat the two deposits as one continuous Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) style mineralised system. The announcement notes this is the first consolidated estimate for the deposit following TNC’s recent acquisition. The result is a larger, more coherent foundation for mine design and development optimisation.
New drilling confirms resource quality
Eight new drillholes were incorporated into this MRE: five 2024 Renegade Exploration RC holes and three 2026 TNC diamond holes. Two standout intercepts from the 2026 TNC programme (all widths are downhole intercepts) include:
- GAMD26_005: 58.97m @ 0.71% Cu and 0.11 g/t Au from 43.98m, including 3.97m @ 3.79% Cu and 0.47 g/t Au from 77m
- GAMD26_011: 38m @ 0.75% Cu and 0.08 g/t Au from 52m, including 11m @ 1.50% Cu and 0.15 g/t Au from 62m
These results confirm robust copper-gold grades across the consolidated system and support greater confidence in the resource as a mine design input.
Understanding mineral resource estimates and why scale matters
A Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) is a formal calculation of the quantity and grade of mineralisation in the ground that has a reasonable prospect of eventual economic extraction. In Australia, MREs prepared under the JORC Code 2012 edition must be compiled by a qualified Competent Person and reported in accordance with strict standards — providing investors with a regulated, comparable measure of project scale and quality.
JORC 2012 classifies resources into three confidence tiers: Measured (highest), Indicated, and Inferred (lowest). The distinction matters because Indicated resources have closer drill spacing and better-defined geological continuity than Inferred resources. They carry more weight in mine feasibility studies and are a prerequisite for converting a resource into an Ore Reserve.
For the consolidated Mongoose–Taipan MRE, roughly half the resource sits in the higher-confidence Indicated category. The table below summarises the breakdown:
| Resource Category | Tonnes (kt) | Grade (% CuEq) | Contained CuEq (kt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total Indicated | 5,949 | 0.77% | 46 |
| Total Inferred | 5,252 | 0.74% | 39 |
| Grand Total | 11,201 | 0.76% | 85 |
Having approximately 5,949 kt in the Indicated category means the resource has a more robust technical foundation for mine planning. Infill drilling to upgrade the remaining Inferred material represents a clear pathway to further improving resource confidence ahead of the PFS.
CCP resource base strengthened ahead of PFS
With Mongoose–Taipan now incorporated, the full Cloncurry Copper Project stands at a consolidated JORC 2012 Mineral Resource of 20.64 Mt @ 0.74% Cu and 0.26 g/t Au, containing approximately 152 kt Cu and 171 koz Au. The deposits contributing to this total are:
Great Australia resource growth at the adjacent Cloncurry deposit has followed a similar consolidation trajectory, with recent drilling confirming the scale of mineralisation that now underpins the broader 20.64 Mt CCP resource base.
- Great Australia
- Orphan Shear
- Mongoose–Taipan (within EPM 8588, CJV with Glencore, TNC ~35% interest)
- Wallace North
- Wynberg
- Mt Norma In Situ
- Mt Norma Heap Leach and Stockpile
The CCP total does not include the Wallace South gold-only resource of 15.9 koz Au.
The updated MRE is a direct input to the CCP PFS, with the company targeting a potential Ore Reserve definition as part of that study, on track for late 2026. An Ore Reserve is a subset of a Mineral Resource that has been assessed against all modifying factors — mining, metallurgy, economics, and environment — confirming it can be extracted profitably. Converting resource scale into a defined Ore Reserve is the key step that transforms a project from an exploration asset into a development-ready one.
True North’s planned next steps are:
- CCP Pre-Feasibility Study and potential Ore Reserve, on track for late 2026
- Integration of the consolidated Mongoose–Taipan MRE into mine design and scheduling as part of the CCP PFS
- Infill resource drilling at Mongoose–Taipan to upgrade resource classification, as well as examination of near-deposit extension targets
- Portfolio optimisation across Wallace North, Mongoose–Taipan and Wynberg to optimise and expand the CCP beyond the initial PFS
- Continued Aquila drilling and regional exploration updates at the Mt Oxide Project throughout the remainder of 2026

True North’s three-platform growth strategy
True North Copper is executing a three-platform growth strategy anchored across its Northwest Queensland portfolio.
The Grow platform centres on the Mt Oxide Project, an emerging district-scale copper system carrying a resource of 220 kt Cu, 5 Moz Ag, and 21 kt Co. Active drilling continues to build confidence in the size and continuity of this polymetallic asset.
Aquila high-grade copper results at Mt Oxide have continued to extend the system vertically, with intercepts reaching 300 metres depth and reinforcing the district-scale ambitions TNC holds for its Grow platform asset.
The Develop platform is the Cloncurry Copper Project, targeting near-term revenue generation, with a total Mineral Resource of 152 kt Cu and 171 koz Au. The Mongoose–Taipan consolidation directly reinforces this platform, adding scale and mine design optionality heading into the PFS.
The Discover platform targets regional Iron Oxide Copper Gold systems across the broader Mt Isa corridor, including Tier-1 targets such as Chumvale, Marimo and the Salebury IOCG system, with recent tenement expansions adjacent to both development assets.
