Ballard Mining's $45.0M Mt Ida Placement at $0.66 a share, plus a $5.0M SPP, lifts pro-forma cash to $94.1M as the company drives its 1.84Moz gold project towards a mid-2027 FID.
By William Hadrian -
  • Ballard has locked in firm commitments for a $45.0M placement at $0.66, with up to $5.0M more from an SPP, lifting pro-forma cash to roughly $94.1M.
  • The issue price sits 7.7% below the last close of $0.715 and 16.2% below the 10-day VWAP of $0.788, so new investors are buying under recent trading levels.
  • $40.0M of the funds goes to drilling, split evenly between growth and infill, on a 1.84Moz resource where 1,189koz is still Inferred.
  • A $28.0M, 250-person accommodation village and $10.0M of FEED mark the pre-FID build-out for a fully approved 2.0Mtpa processing plant.
  • FID is targeted for mid-CY2027, with the Feasibility Study and its Maiden Ore Reserve the key catalysts between now and then.

Ballard Mining secures firm commitments for a $45.0M placement to advance the 1.84Moz Mt Ida Gold Project

Ballard Mining (ASX: BM1) has received firm commitments for a $45.0M placement (before costs) to institutional and sophisticated investors, with a further Share Purchase Plan (SPP) of up to $5.0M to follow. The money is aimed at growing and infilling the 1.84Moz Mt Ida Gold Project resource.

New shares are priced at $0.66, a 7.7% discount to the $0.715 last close on 7 October 2026 and a 16.2% discount to the 10-day volume weighted average price (VWAP) of $0.788. In plain terms, investors in the raising are buying below where the stock has recently traded.

The Placement of approximately 68.2M new fully paid ordinary shares was a single tranche. Ballard said it was well supported by existing shareholders and new domestic and international resource-focussed institutional investors.

It is not underwritten, meaning no broker has guaranteed the funds. Shares will be issued using the Company’s existing placement capacity under ASX Listing Rule 7.1, so no shareholder vote is described in the announcement.

Including the full $5.0M SPP and $44.1M of unaudited cash at 30 September 2026, pro-forma cash is ~$94.1M.

Paul Brennan, Managing Director

“…We now have a strong register that is capable of supporting the Project build.”

Brennan also said the Board has approved the design and construction of a permanent 250-person accommodation village, which he said will support “all possible development scenarios at Mt Ida”.

The deal team is:

  • Joint Lead Managers and Joint Bookrunners to the Placement: Argonaut Securities Pty Limited and Canaccord Genuity (Australia) Limited
  • Co-Manager to the Placement: Commonwealth Securities Limited

Where the capital goes: drilling, village and pre-FID works

Ballard outlined four priorities for the combined Placement and SPP proceeds:

  1. Continue the exploration strategy to grow and infill the 1.84Moz Mineral Resource.
  2. Construct a new 250-person accommodation village at Mt Ida.
  3. Accelerate pre-FID (pre-final investment decision) works for the fully approved Mt Ida gold processing facility, which remains subject to a final investment decision in mid-CY2027.
  4. Finalise Mt Ida development studies to enable FID.

Sources and uses of funds

The table below reproduces Ballard’s Table 1. Total sources and uses both equal $94.1M.

Ballard Mining Use of Funds ($94.1M Allocation)

Source of funds $M
Cash on hand (unaudited, 30 September 2026) $44.1
Capital raising proceeds (incl. $5.0M from SPP; before costs) $50.0
Total source of funds $94.1
Use of funds $M
Resource growth drilling beyond existing 1.84Moz MRE $20.0
Resource infill drilling $20.0
Accommodation Village $28.0
Front-End Engineering Design $10.0
Public road diversion, dewatering bores etc. $3.5
Feasibility Study $3.0
Working capital (inc. cost of the Placement and SPP) $9.6
Total use of funds $94.1

$20.0M is allocated to resource growth drilling and $20.0M to resource infill drilling. The village is the next largest line at $28.0M.

Working capital includes estimated Placement and SPP costs of $1.8M. The Feasibility Study, which will include a Maiden Ore Reserve statement, is the planned bridge to FID.

Ballard cautioned that the table is a statement of current intentions. Due to market conditions or other factors, “actual expenditure may differ significantly” from these estimates, and the Company reserves the right to alter how funds are applied.

Understanding resource drilling and the path to FID

Two types of drilling are funded, and they do different jobs. Extension drilling looks for ounces beyond the known resource, while infill drilling adds holes inside it to raise confidence in ounces already counted.

A Maiden Ore Reserve is the first formal statement of the portion of a resource that is considered economically mineable. Investors should read it alongside the Feasibility Study as the evidence base a board would normally want before committing to FID.

Ballard describes a dual stream plan: increase confidence in the current Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) while growing the global resource inventory through exploration. All modifying factors, the technical and economic inputs that convert a resource into a reserve, will be advanced simultaneously.

The September 2026 MRE stands at 20.4Mt at 2.8g/t for 1.84Moz, as announced on 23 September 2026 when it reported a 56% increase.

Category Tonnes (000s) Grade (g/t Au) Ounces (000s)
Indicated 5,138 3.9 647
Inferred 15,238 2.4 1,189
Total 20,376 2.8 1,836

Most of the inventory is still Inferred, the lowest confidence category, which is why infill drilling features so prominently. The Baldock deposit hosts 1,363koz of the total.

Ballard states that 93% of resources sit on granted mining leases. The main Baldock area has full open cut and underground mining approvals, with a Works Approval for a 2.0Mtpa processing plant and tailings storage facility.

Share Purchase Plan and key dates for investors

Two separate transactions are on the table. The Placement raises ~$45.0M at $0.66 from institutional and sophisticated investors, while the SPP offers existing eligible shareholders up to $5.0M at the same $0.66 Issue Price.

Ballard may accept oversubscriptions up to an additional $5.0M (before costs). Key SPP terms are:

  • Up to $30,000 of shares per Eligible Shareholder, with no brokerage or transaction costs
  • Record date of 4:00pm (AWST) on 7 October 2026, for shareholders with a registered address in Australia or New Zealand
  • Shareholders in the United States, or acting for the account or benefit of a person in the United States, are not eligible
  • Placement participants are not eligible
  • The SPP is not underwritten
  • If demand exceeds $5.0M, Ballard may scale back applications and intends to have regard to shareholding size at the record date, though it retains discretion over the methodology

An SPP Booklet is expected to be released to ASX and despatched on or around 19 October 2026.

Capital raising event Indicative date

The timetable is indicative only and subject to variation at Ballard’s discretion.

The combined raising takes pro-forma cash to ~$94.1M for a program that runs towards the FID targeted for mid-CY2027. Between now and then, the Feasibility Study with its Maiden Ore Reserve and ongoing drilling results are the developments to watch.
