Resolution Minerals (ASX: RML) has announced encouraging initial results from its maiden diamond core drilling program at the Golden Gate Target within the Horse Heaven Gold-Antimony-Tungsten-Silver Project in Idaho, USA.
Resolution has completed four holes totaling 960 meters of a planned 3,000-meter Phase 1 program that will include up to 12 holes. The company reports that all holes drilled to date have been positive, with the fifth hole currently underway.
Most significantly, visual tungsten mineralisation in the form of scheelite has been identified in 100% of the logged holes using ultraviolet lamp examination. This is particularly noteworthy as tungsten had not been previously assayed for in historical drilling, despite the area being a tungsten producer for the US government in the 1950s.
The company's local technical experts have also observed host rock mineral textures very similar to those at the adjacent Perpetua Resources' Stibnite Gold Project, including quartz veins associated with fine-grained sulphides.
"The drilling is more encouraging than initially expected, with alteration textures similar to the adjoining Stibnite mine and visible tungsten as scheelite in all logged holes to date. Initial assay results are eagerly awaited, not just for gold and silver, but for tungsten as well which had not been assayed for in this area, despite previous workings." – Craig Lindsay, CEO of RML's US Operations
The drilling has intersected predominantly bleached, altered and locally oxidised quartz-sericite to silicified felsic granite, interpreted as granodiorite to monzonite of the Cretaceous Idaho Batholith. The depth of oxidation in two drill holes ranges between 70 and 90 meters down-hole.
Notable observations of scheelite (tungsten ore) under UV light include:
The company is working to accelerate the drilling program, potentially securing a second rig to complete this round by October 1, 2025.
Tungsten, particularly in the form of scheelite (CaWO₄), is often associated with gold deposits in certain geological settings. When examining drill core under ultraviolet light, scheelite fluoresces a distinctive sky-blue colour, making it readily identifiable to geologists in the field.
Scheelite fluorescence has been used by exploration geologists for decades as a field technique for identifying tungsten mineralisation. This method allows for immediate visual confirmation of tungsten presence before laboratory assays are available.
The presence of tungsten mineralisation at Horse Heaven is significant for several reasons:
However, it's important to note that while visual identification provides preliminary evidence of mineralisation, laboratory assays will be required to determine actual tungsten concentrations and economic significance.
The current drilling program aims to confirm historical shallow drilling results and expand the mineralised footprint at Golden Gate. Past drilling at the target yielded impressive gold intercepts, including:
The addition of assays for antimony and tungsten, which weren't performed in historical drilling, could significantly enhance the project's economic potential.
The Horse Heaven Project occupies a strategic position in Idaho's mining district, with the Golden Gate Target representing just a small portion of Resolution's larger land package.
"What is also exciting is that this target is only a postage stamp size in a much larger project." – Craig Lindsay, CEO of RML's US Operations
The project's proximity to Perpetua Resources' Stibnite Gold Project adds further credibility to Resolution Minerals Idaho gold project exploration efforts, with similar geological features now confirmed through the current drilling program.
Resolution is continuing its drilling program with several key milestones ahead:
Assay results from the current drilling are expected in 6-8 weeks, which should provide quantitative data on gold, silver, tungsten, and antimony values at Golden Gate.
The Horse Heaven Project comprises 699 US Federal lode mining claims covering 5,644 hectares in Idaho, USA. The project area is dominated by Cretaceous-aged granitic rocks relating to intrusive phases associated with the Atlanta Lobe of the Idaho Batholith.
The geology consists mainly of granodiorite rocks that have intruded Neoproterozoic-aged metasediments, comprising quartzites, calc-silicates, marble and black shale. The area is affected by broad regional folding and various fault systems running in north-south and northeast-southwest directions.
Gold, antimony, tungsten and silver mineralisation is associated with hydrothermally altered and fractured granodiorites. This geological setting is considered highly prospective for economic mineral deposits.
Resolution Minerals presents an interesting opportunity for investors interested in the junior mining sector. The company's Horse Heaven project combines:
With a structured drilling program underway and initial visual results confirming the geological model, Resolution Minerals Idaho gold project is methodically advancing while simultaneously expanding its potential scope and value.
The upcoming assay results will be a critical catalyst for the company, potentially validating the promising visual observations and historical drilling results at Golden Gate.
For investors seeking exposure to a multi-commodity gold project with promising early drilling results in Idaho's prolific mining district, Resolution Minerals (ASX: RML) offers compelling potential.
