Prospect Resources Expands Copper Drilling as High-Grade Hits Grow Mumbezhi Resource
Key Takeaways
- Two headline intercepts from the south-east extension zone — 27m @ 0.69% Cu and 5.1m @ 0.99% Cu — sit entirely outside the existing 154.4 Mt Nyungu Central MRE, meaning they are additive to the resource, not confirmatory.
- The Phase 3 programme at Nyungu Central has been expanded mid-cycle by 3,375m to a total of 13,375m, targeting the eastern flank and northern down-plunge zones identified as high-priority growth corridors.
- Maiden drilling at Sharamba, 10km north-east of Nyungu Central, has confirmed a new copper discovery across a +3km structural sequence, with management flagging it justifies substantial further drilling.
- An industry-wide laboratory backlog has been addressed by rerouting MRE-pertinent samples through Intertek Kitwe and air-freighting pulped samples to Intertek Perth, with 16 priority assay results still pending at Nyungu Central.
- The Mumbezhi Scoping Study remains on track for Q1 2027, representing the next major structural milestone for the project following previously confirmed metallurgical processing amenability.
High-grade copper intercepts expand Nyungu Central’s south-east extension zone
Prospect Resources (ASX: PSC) has delivered new assay results from its Phase 3 diamond drilling campaign at the Mumbezhi Copper Project (90% Prospect) in north-west Zambia, with high-grade intercepts outside the existing Mineral Resource Estimate reinforcing the deposit’s growth story.
The two headline results from the south-east extension zone are:
- NCDD033: 27m @ 0.69% Cu from 102m
- NCDD031: 5.1m @ 0.99% Cu from 173m and 3.8m @ 0.95% Cu from 132m
Critically, all new results sit outside the existing Indicated and Inferred May 2026 MRE defined at Nyungu Central, which totals 154.4 Mt @ 0.42% Cu (0.51% CuEq) at a 0.2% Cu cut-off grade. Both holes are located up-dip from previously reported Phase 3 step-out intercepts, including NCDD028 (66m @ 0.42% Cu) and NCDD026 (44m @ 0.60% Cu), confirming continuity of mineralisation in this emerging extension corridor.
For investors, the distinction matters: these are additive intercepts, not confirmatory ones. Results outside the MRE boundary signal genuine resource growth potential.

Phase 3 programme scale-up reflects growing confidence in the deposit
Nyungu Central drilling expanded to 13,375m total
Twenty-nine Phase 3 diamond holes are now completed at Nyungu Central for 8,863m (including approved infill work), with priority assays still pending for 16 resource extension holes. The programme has been materially expanded mid-cycle: a further 3,375m of extensional diamond drilling has been added, lifting the Nyungu Central Phase 3 target to 13,375m total.
The expansion targets the eastern flank and down-plunge to the north, both identified as high-potential growth zones. Four diamond drill rigs are currently operating on site, three at Nyungu Central and one at Kabikupa, with one rig moving shortly to the Kamafamba prospect and then Chipimpa.
Sam Hosack, Managing Director and CEO
“The broader extension potential at Nyungu Central has justified a significant increase in budgeted diamond drill metres this year, with this expanded focus now directed to the eastern flank and northern down plunge areas that continue to offer genuine potential.”
A mid-cycle programme expansion signals management conviction in the geological thesis. The pipeline of 16 priority holes with pending assays represents staggered near-term news flow.
Kabikupa and multi-prospect activity
At Kabikupa, four of eight planned extensional holes have been completed for 550m of a 1,725m programme, targeting areas up-dip (to the south-west) of the current MRE. All assays are pending. Kabikupa holds an Indicated and Inferred MRE of 23.0 Mt @ 0.48% Cu for 118,000 tonnes of copper.
Programme-wide status across all three active areas:
- Nyungu Central — 29 holes / 8,863m complete; 16 priority assays pending
- Kabikupa — 4 of 8 holes complete / 550m; assays pending
- Sharamba — 8 holes / 2,358m complete; maiden discovery confirmed
| Prospect | Holes Completed | Metres Drilled | Programme Target | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nyungu Central | 29 | 8,863m | 13,375m | 16 priority assays pending |
| Kabikupa | 4 of 8 | 550m | 1,725m | All assays pending |
| Sharamba | 8 (1 abandoned) | 2,358m | Exploratory programme | Maiden discovery confirmed; further assays pending |
Maiden drilling at Sharamba confirms a new copper discovery
Located 10km north-east of Nyungu Central, the Sharamba prospect has returned its first confirmed copper discovery following completion of the maiden exploratory diamond drilling programme in August. Eight holes were drilled (one, SADD003, abandoned due to unfavourable ground conditions) for 2,358m across a +3km structural sequence.
The lead intercepts from the maiden programme are:
- SADD001: 4m @ 0.25% Cu from 154m
- SADD002: 7m @ 0.22% Cu from 106m
Initial grades and widths are modest, as is typical for a first-pass exploratory programme. The geological significance lies in confirming copper (as chalcopyrite) at the apex of coincident airborne EM and IP chargeability anomalies, validating the target model. The company has stated it has “significantly upgraded the potential” of the +3km structural sequence, and further drilling will be planned. Managing Director and CEO Sam Hosack noted the discovery “clearly justifies substantial further drilling.”
A new discovery within an existing licence area adds optionality at near-zero incremental cost. Sharamba is emerging as a satellite target alongside the flagship Nyungu Central deposit.
Why copper matters for the energy transition
Copper sits at the heart of electrification. Electric vehicles can contain as much as 80kg of copper, four times the amount typically used in a combustion engine vehicle, and the metal is equally central to the wiring, cables, and infrastructure underpinning renewable energy systems.
The Mumbezhi project’s location in the Central African Copperbelt, one of the world’s premier copper-producing regions, gives PSC an asset address directly aligned with this structural demand story. North-west Zambia hosts several major operating mines in comparable geological settings, providing meaningful regional context for Mumbezhi’s development trajectory.
Prospect Resources holds 25-year mining licences across the Mumbezhi project area, providing the long-tenure security that supports the capital investment required to advance a deposit of this scale through development.

Assay backlog addressed and Scoping Study on track for Q1 2027
An industry-wide laboratory overload at commercial analytical laboratories in Zambia has created a results lag, despite the Phase 3 programme having already surpassed 50% of its budgeted 22,000 diamond metres for 2026. The company has implemented two concrete mitigation actions:
- All MRE-pertinent drill sampling at Nyungu Central and Kabikupa is now being redirected through Intertek (Kitwe) for pulp sample preparation, with those pulped samples air freighted to Intertek (Perth) for copper, cobalt, and gold analysis.
- Geological staffing at Mumbezhi has been increased to accelerate the logging and sampling efficiency of the current core backlog.
Sam Hosack, Managing Director and CEO
“…we have proven a significantly quicker alternate testing pathway to mitigate this challenge and accelerate the return of key extensional and infill results at Nyungu Central and Kabikupa.”
The Mumbezhi Scoping Study remains on track for completion and release in Q1 2027, representing the next major structural milestone for the project. With 16 priority holes carrying pending assays and the revised laboratory pathway now in place, the near-term news flow pipeline remains active.
Metallurgical testing results at Mumbezhi have already confirmed the project’s processing amenability, an outcome that underpins confidence in the Scoping Study timeline and reduces a key technical risk ahead of the Q1 2027 milestone.
