Predictive Discovery Deploys $10M Into West African Gold Explorer Awalé Resources
Predictive Discovery (ASX:PDI, TSX:PDI) has completed its US$10 million strategic investment in West African gold explorer Awalé Resources (TSXV:ARIC), securing an 11.8% shareholding on an undiluted basis. The investment, funded from existing cash reserves, gives PDI ownership of 16,642,352 common shares in the Côte d’Ivoire-focused exploration company. An investor rights agreement provides PDI with the right to maintain its shareholding together with other rights outlined in the company’s 15 July 2026 announcement.
The transaction marks PDI’s first equity position in Awalé, with the company confirming it held no securities in the explorer immediately prior to completion. PDI acquired the shares for investment purposes only and intends to review its holding on a continuing basis, retaining the option to increase or decrease its stake as market conditions warrant.
What the deal delivers for PDI
The completed investment positions PDI as a strategic cornerstone investor in Awalé without diluting its own shareholder base. The company deployed surplus cash to secure early-stage exploration exposure in West Africa’s proven gold belt, adding optionality beyond its core Guinea and Mali operations.
| Metric | Detail |
|---|---|
| Investment amount | US$10 million |
| Funding source | Existing cash reserves |
| Shareholding | 11.8% (undiluted) |
| Shares acquired | 16,642,352 common shares |
| Key right | Right to maintain shareholding (investor rights agreement) |
The investor rights agreement provides PDI with the right to maintain its shareholding in Awalé together with other rights outlined in the 15 July 2026 announcement, while maintaining flexibility to adjust its position over time. The investment represents a strategic allocation of capital to a prospective early-stage asset without the financial commitment or operational integration required in an outright acquisition.

The asset behind the investment: Odienné and West African gold
Awalé is advancing the Odienné Project in Côte d’Ivoire, described by PDI as a “highly prospective” gold exploration project. The minority stake gives PDI exposure to potential exploration success in a proven West African gold belt at a fraction of the capital cost required to develop a project from scratch.
Strategic investments of this nature allow established producers to secure early exposure to new discovery pipelines while retaining optionality. Key advantages include:
- Early-stage exploration upside beyond PDI’s core Guinea and Mali assets
- Lower risk minority stake without operational obligations
- Anti-dilution protection via right to maintain shareholding
For investors newer to mining finance, a strategic investment differs from an acquisition in that PDI takes a passive equity position rather than assuming project control or development obligations. This structure allows PDI to benefit from potential exploration success without committing to construction capital or operational execution.
Where this fits in PDI’s broader growth story
Predictive Discovery is a leading West African gold production and development company with an established operating platform. The company’s production base comprises the Kiniero Gold Mine in Guinea, which commenced production in late 2025, and the Nampala Gold Mine in Mali, operating since 2017.
The flagship growth asset is the Bankan Gold Project in Guinea, one of the largest undeveloped gold projects in Africa with expected production of approximately 250,000oz per annum over more than 12 years. PDI is targeting annual production exceeding 400,000oz by 2029, leveraging the proximity and synergies of its Kiniero and Bankan assets in Guinea.
The production targets for Bankan were released on 25 June 2025 in PDI’s announcement titled “Bankan DFS Confirms Outstanding Project Economics”. Production targets for Kiniero were released on 22 August 2025 in Robex’s announcement titled “Amendment to Kiniero Gold Project Technical Report”. PDI confirms that all material assumptions underpinning the production targets in these announcements continue to apply and have not materially changed.
The Awalé investment signals a company confident enough in its funded development pipeline to allocate capital to future exploration optionality. Deploying US$10 million from existing cash reserves demonstrates balance sheet strength while adding exposure to prospective exploration ground in a proven gold belt.
