Patriot extends Zambia copper corridor to 5.5km with two new drill targets
Patriot Resources has extended its prospective geophysical footprint to approximately 5.5km southeast of the Tonic discovery within the Mumbwa–Kitumba mineralised corridor in Zambia. Ground magnetics and induced polarisation (IP) surveys have defined two new high-priority drill targets, Block 1 and Block 2, building a multi-centre copper system interpretation and expanding the company’s exploration pipeline alongside the recent Tonic discovery. The targets sit within Patriot’s 100%-owned Licence 27715-HQ-LEL, with Block 1 located approximately 2.5km and Block 2 approximately 5km southeast of Tonic.

Both targets exhibit hydrothermal alteration associated with intrusive granite-syenite units, indicating an IOCG (iron oxide copper gold)-affinity signature. This alteration style supports the interpretation that Block 1 and Block 2 may form part of a fertile intrusive-related copper system.

Copper explained — why IOCG systems and this corridor matter
IOCG-style mineralisation refers to iron oxide copper gold deposits, characterised by copper ore bodies associated with iron oxide minerals and formed through hydrothermal processes linked to intrusive rocks. Geophysicists use IP (induced polarisation) surveys to detect “chargeability” — the ability of rock to hold an electrical charge — which indicates the presence of buried sulphide minerals, the typical host for copper. Magnetic surveys identify iron-rich alteration zones and structural controls that channel mineralising fluids.
Sitting on a fertile regional structure matters because proven mineralisation nearby substantially de-risks exploration. The Mumbwa Fault Zone hosts Sinomine’s Kitumba deposit and demonstrates that the regional structure has concentrated copper mineralisation at multiple points. For investors, early-stage discoveries along demonstrably endowed corridors offer higher probability of success than greenfield exploration.
The neighbourhood advantage — Kitumba and infrastructure
Patriot’s Block 1 and Block 2 targets lie on the same NW–SE-trending Mumbwa Fault Zone that hosts Sinomine’s Kitumba copper deposit, located approximately 18km northwest. The Kitumba deposit contains approximately 109.2 Mt @ 0.96% Cu at a 0.35% Cu cut-off (IAU ASX Announcement, 17 August 2015). Sinomine’s Target H (Cu-Co prospect) sits approximately 7km northwest of Tonic.
Kitumba is described as the first recognised IOCG-style copper deposit in Zambia, formed by intrusion of the Hook Granitoid Suite into Katanga Supergroup metasediments. Sinomine’s US$600 million Kitumba project includes a processing facility and copper smelter being commissioned in 2026, offering a potential infrastructure pathway for Patriot’s future development.

Maiden RC drilling at Tonic confirmed a from-surface Cu-Ag-Zn-Co discovery (announced 8 July 2026), with key intercepts including:
- 17m @ 0.41% Cu, 4.7 g/t Ag & 0.30% Zn from 29m (TBRC03)
- 1m @ 2.56% Cu, 62.3 g/t Ag & 0.76% Zn from 55m (TBRC03)
- 1m @ 1.44% Cu at 145m (TBRC10); 1m @ 1.69% Cu (TBRC14)
- Cobalt credits: 19m @ 0.010% Co from 48m (TBRC04); 13m @ 0.014% Co from 143m (TBRC02)
The Tonic system remains open at depth and along strike, with the majority of the defined IP footprint still undrilled. Tonic is a structurally controlled, sediment-hosted polymetallic Cu-Ag-Zn-Co system, whereas Block 1 and Block 2 represent syenite-hosted IOCG-affinity targets — complementary mineralisation styles within the same corridor, both fully open for drill testing.
