MB Gold’s Razorback returns best gram-meter intercept yet at the Marble Bar Gold Project

MB Gold (ASX: MBG) has reported initial Phase 2 reverse circulation (RC) assay results from the Marble Bar Gold Project, along with approval of a 2,000m diamond drilling program.

The standout is 9m @ 4.03g/t Au from 60m in hole 26MBRC066, which the company describes as the best gram-meter intercept from the project to date. A gram-meter figure multiplies grade by width, so it rewards intercepts that are both thick and high-grade.

The result came from one of the first few holes drilled at Razorback, a prospect that has remained undrilled since 2007.

The Phase 2 RC program totals 31 holes for 4,308m across the Twin Veins and Razorback prospects. Assays have returned for half of it: 11 holes at Twin Veins and the first 6 of 20 holes at Razorback, with results from 14 holes still pending.

Logan Barber, Executive Director and CEO

“The initial Phase 2 RC drill results support our view that there is a significant gold system at the Marble Bar Gold Project.”

What did the Razorback and Twin Veins drilling return?

Razorback matters because it tests a historic target. Initial results confirm historic mineralisation, and the company highlights the prospect as a significant area of focus.

Phase 2 RC Drill Program Allocation and Status

Razorback confirms historic mineralisation

The table below shows the key Razorback intercepts reported, using the source’s 0.3g/t Au cut-off. Widths are down-hole.

Hole ID From (m) Width (m) Au (g/t) High-grade included
26MBRC066 60 9 4.03 3m @ 10g/t from 62m
26MBRC068 64 8 2.50 1m @ 14.01g/t from 71m
26MBRC064 9 7 2.94 1m @ 11.62g/t
26MBRC064 24 4 3.65 1m @ 12.43g/t
26MBRC065 43 1 5.84 Not applicable

Mineralisation at Razorback remains open along strike and at depth, and will be a key focus for further extensional drilling in 2027. True width is yet to be determined, so these figures should not be read as the actual thickness of the gold zones.

Twin Veins continues to grow

Twin Veins also returned gold, though the deeper holes hit thinner intercepts. Key results include:

  • 7m @ 2.52g/t Au from 67m in 26MBRC052
  • 2m @ 2.05g/t Au from 198m in 26MBRC056
  • 3m @ 1.27g/t Au from 114m in 26MBRC058

The main zone has now been tested over 500m to a vertical depth of approximately 120m, and remains open along strike and at depth. Twin Veins East was not drill tested in this program and remains open at depth.

The Twin Veins East discovery of a new high-grade gold zone remains a distinct part of the story, pointing to potential beyond the main zone that was not drill tested in this program.

Barber said the deeper RC holes hit thinner gold intercepts, but the system is still open with potential for further discovery. For you as an investor, that is a balanced picture: the shallower zone is still extending, while depth is less proven.

What is diamond drilling and why does it matter?

RC drilling blasts rock into small chips that are collected and sampled. Diamond drilling instead cuts a solid cylinder of rock, known as core.

Core gives geologists far more to work with. At Twin Veins and Razorback, the diamond holes will twin thicker mineralised zones from RC drilling to provide structural information on vein orientation, plus detail on stratigraphy and alteration mineralogy.

The core will also supply samples for metallurgical test work and petrology (the study of rock under a microscope). The company says this is to understand at an early stage the likely processing requirements for potential future mining activities.

One caveat applies. The company notes it is probable the gold is coarse in nature, which may lead to issues in obtaining representative samples from individual drill holes.

What will the 2,000m maiden diamond program target?

MB Gold will carry out its maiden diamond drilling campaign at the project, comprising 2,000m across multiple prospects. DDH1 has been confirmed as the drilling contractor.

Targeting draws on the Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS)-supported Dipole-Dipole Induced Polarisation (DDIP) survey completed in July. Geophysics contractor Terra Resources processed the data, and three high-priority targets were selected for diamond drill testing.

These targets are chargeability anomalies that may be associated with the presence of sulphides. The highest priority target (P1_PDH001) sits on the edge of the Murphy Well Granodiorite, down plunge from the gold mineralisation identified at Twin Veins.

Earlier drilling at Murphy Well in 2023 and 2024, reported by GL1, returned best results of 5m @ 1.1g/t Au from 219m and 1m @ 9.92g/t Au from 341m. The company says the chargeability anomalies identified by the recent DDIP survey have not been tested by the historical holes and provide immediate drill targets.

The timeline set out by the company:

  1. Diamond drilling is due to commence in early November
  2. Core processing runs through December-January
  3. Results are due in Q1 2027
  4. Pending RC assays will be reported to the market once received
  5. Further RC drilling is planned at Twin Veins and Razorback following completion of the diamond program

The announcement does not disclose cash or funding detail for the program.

Why does this matter for MB Gold investors?

The announcement offers three things: confirmation of a historic target at Razorback, a standout intercept, and a second prospect at Twin Veins that is still growing. None of this is a resource estimate, so treat it as early-stage drilling evidence.

The project has a 12km strike length of gold-in-soil geochemical anomalies. It sits 150km from Port Hedland via the sealed Marble Bar Road and 60km from AIM Mining Corporation’s Warrawoona Operations.

The news flow ahead is clear. Assays from 14 holes are still to come, and diamond results are due in Q1 2027.

Logan Barber, Executive Director and CEO

“Due to the positive IP survey results and drill results from Twin Veins and Razorback, we have decided to progress a diamond drill program this year to test some of the deeper targets…”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gram-meter intercept in gold drilling?

A gram-meter figure multiplies gold grade by intercept width, so it rewards results that are both thick and high-grade. MB Gold's 9m @ 4.03g/t Au at Razorback is the best gram-meter result at the Marble Bar Gold Project to date.

What is the difference between RC and diamond drilling?

Reverse circulation drilling blasts rock into small chips that are collected and sampled, while diamond drilling cuts a solid cylinder of core. Core gives geologists structural, alteration and metallurgical information that chips cannot.

When will MB Gold's diamond drilling results be released?

Diamond drilling at the Marble Bar Gold Project is due to start in early November, with core processing through December and January. Results are expected in Q1 2027.

What did MB Gold find at Razorback in its Marble Bar Project drilling?

Razorback, undrilled since 2007, returned 9m @ 4.03g/t Au from 60m in hole 26MBRC066, including 3m @ 10g/t. Initial results confirm historic mineralisation, which remains open along strike and at depth.

How much of MB Gold's Phase 2 RC drilling is still waiting on assays?

The Phase 2 program totals 31 holes for 4,308m. Results from 14 holes are still pending, and the company will report them to the market once received.
