Kingsrose Mining clears Natura 2000 assessment at Penikat Area 6
Kingsrose Mining (ASX: KRM) has received a positive conclusion from the Finnish environmental regulator (“LVV”) on the Natura 2000 assessment for proposed exploration at Penikat Area 6. LVV concluded the assessment is appropriate and reliably demonstrates the exploration will not cause significant adverse impacts to the Natura 2000 area, provided the mitigation measures identified in the assessment are implemented.
The Finnish mining regulator (“Tukes”) is now developing the Exploration Permit and associated conditions, and assessing the Enforcement Order application. Kingsrose continues to target commencement of drilling in January 2027, subject to receipt of the Exploration Permit.
For investors, a key permitting milestone has cleared an environmental hurdle ahead of drilling, though the permit itself is still to come.

Permitting progress: what has been completed
Both Natura 2000 statements received
The LVV statement follows the earlier positive statement from the state landowner (“Metsähallitus”), announced on 1 October 2026. Both required statements on the Natura 2000 assessment are now in.
Tukes has also completed its public consultation on the Exploration Permit Application.
Andy Caruso, Chief Executive Officer
“With this stage of the process complete, our focus is now on receiving an Exploration Permit from Tukes and progressing towards our target of commencing drilling at Area 6 in January 2027.”
Permitting checklist
Here is where the Area 6 process stands:
- Metsähallitus statement received
- LVV statement received
- Natura 2000 assessment stage complete
- Tukes public consultation complete
- Exploration Permit and Enforcement Order application pending with Tukes
The remaining step sits with a single regulator. That makes the path to drilling easier to follow, although the announcement gives no timeline for Tukes’ decision.
What is a Natura 2000 assessment?
Natura 2000 is a network of protected areas. A Natura 2000 assessment tests whether proposed activity could harm those areas.
In this case, LVV concluded the proposed exploration will not cause significant adverse impacts, when undertaken in accordance with the mitigation measures described in the assessment. The announcement does not disclose what those measures are.
For you as an investor, passing this assessment removes a key regulatory uncertainty for Area 6. The Exploration Permit is still required before drilling can start.
