Galileo Mining Starts 5,000m Drill Hunt Next to 17.5Mt Platinum Palladium Deposit
Key Takeaways
- Galileo has started a 5,000m aircore program at Norseman, the first drilling over mineralised outcrop at North Callisto, less than 2km from the 17.5Mt Callisto resource.
- Drilling runs three to four weeks with assays due six weeks after completion, putting the next major news roughly two months out.
- Rock chips graded up to 1.87 g/t 3E, while nearby RC holes returned 62m @ 0.22 g/t 3E and 100m @ 0.19 g/t 3E.
- East-dipping stratigraphy suggests mineralisation may sit beneath and east of the outcrop, where no drilling exists.
- An RC program at Mission Sill is planned before year-end, and the campaign will also follow up the 4m @ 1.2 g/t gold intercept at Callisto South.
Norseman drilling commences: 5,000m aircore program underway
Galileo Mining (ASX: GAL) has commenced a 5,000m aircore drilling program targeting Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) and gold at its 100% owned Norseman Project in Western Australia. It is the first drill program over mineralised outcrop at the North Callisto prospect, less than 2km from the 17.5Mt Callisto resource.
Aircore drilling is a method designed to test for shallow mineralisation, so results should come quickly. Here is the timeline the company has set out:
- Drilling is planned over three to four weeks
- Assays are expected six weeks after drilling is completed
- A separate RC (reverse circulation) drill program is planned before the end of the year at the Mission Sill prospect
Managing Director Brad Underwood framed the program as part of a broader approach to the company’s land holding.
Brad Underwood, Managing Director
“We are excited to announce drilling has commenced at our Norseman Project with the first drilling of mineralised outcrop just two kilometres along strike from our 17.5Mt resource… This approach reflects our strategy of quickly developing and drilling new prospects within our extensive 250km2 land holding.”
For investors, the practical point is timing. With drilling expected to take up to four weeks and assays due about six weeks after that, results are roughly two months away.

Why is North Callisto a compelling target?
What does the surface and drilling evidence show?
As reported on 22 July 2026, rock chip sampling 2 kilometres north of the Callisto resource identified a new target area with up to 1.87 g/t 3E. Here, 3E means Pd + Pt + Au (palladium, platinum and gold) expressed in grams per tonne.
RC drilling either side of the outcrop returned anomalous results, meaning grades above background levels. The company reported 62m @ 0.22 g/t 3E from drilling 140m north of the outcrop area, and 100m @ 0.19 g/t 3E from drilling 170m to the south.
| Location | Result | Type | Distance from outcrop | Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| North Callisto outcrop area | Up to 1.87 g/t 3E | Rock chip | Outcrop (2km north of Callisto resource) | 22 July 2026 (as reported) |
| North of outcrop | 62m @ 0.22 g/t 3E | RC drilling | 140m north | 18 October 2023 |
| South of outcrop | 100m @ 0.19 g/t 3E | RC drilling | 170m south | 18 October 2023 and 1 October 2024 |
Grades at these levels are modest on their own. The interest lies in where they sit relative to a defined resource, and in what the surrounding geology suggests.
What is the geological logic?
The interpreted geological structure for the area, based on resource drilling at Callisto, is east dipping stratigraphy. That implies potential mineralisation may occur beneath and to the east of the outcrop, where no drilling exists.
In plain terms, the aircore program is testing untested ground next to a defined resource. That is a more focused bet than drilling a blank map.
PGMs explained: why does Callisto matter?
PGMs are a group of metals that includes palladium, platinum and rhodium. Galileo reports results using combined metrics: 3E adds palladium, platinum and gold, while 4E adds rhodium (Pd + Pt + Au + Rh) to that mix.
According to the company, the Callisto deposit was discovered in 2022 and is the first deposit of its type identified in Australia, analogous in mineralisation style to the Platreef deposits found in South Africa. The Callisto Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate, reported under the JORC 2012 code on 2 October 2023, stands at:
- 17.5Mt @ 1.04 g/t 4E
- 0.20% Ni (nickel)
- 0.16% Cu (copper)
- 2.3 g/t PdEq (palladium equivalent, which converts the different metals into a single palladium-based figure)
If drilling at North Callisto proves up nearby mineralisation, it could extend the footprint beyond the existing resource. That remains a question for the assays to answer.

What comes next in the broader program?
The 5,000m campaign goes beyond North Callisto. Additional drilling is planned further north along strike following the Callisto prospective geological contact zone, and follow-up of anomalous gold results at a new prospect south of Callisto will also be undertaken in the current campaign.
That gold prospect is Callisto South. Its gold intercept of 4m @ 1.2 g/t was detailed in an ASX announcement dated 10 August 2026.
The separate RC program at Mission Sill is planned “before the end of the year”, with no firmer date given. Mission Sill is described as holding advanced targets.
For investors, the next news driver is the assay results, expected six weeks after drilling completes. Until then, the drilling progress and any further program updates are the main items to watch.
