Cosmo Metals Targets Bingara Gold after 13.6g/t Sampling Results
Key Takeaways
- Sampling at Cosmo's Yellow Robin workings returned up to 13.6g/t Au from a mullock grab, on ground with no previous drilling.
- Most other Star of Bingara samples returned low grades, with the next highlighted results near 0.3g/t Au, so SC42 is a standout rather than the norm.
- The 12km trend carries more than 1,180 historic pits and shafts and sits parallel to the Peel Fault, with stacked lodes dipping about 60 degrees northeast.
- Spring Creek, at the centre of the trend, has already delivered 6m at 9.99g/t Au from 11m in late 2025 drilling.
- Drill targets are still being defined at Star of Bingara with no dates or budgets disclosed, while Mona Mine VMS drilling is expected to start in coming weeks.
Drill targets generated at Star of Bingara as sampling returns up to 13.6g/t Au
Cosmo Metals (ASX: CMO) has completed broad scale geological mapping and reconnaissance surface sampling along the 12km Star of Bingara to Lone Hand Trend within the 484.1 km² Bingara Project in New South Wales. Sampling returned results of up to 13.6g/t Au from the newly defined Yellow Robin and Golden Shamrock workings.
The top result (sample SC42) came from a grab sample of mullock (waste rock piled beside a shaft) at the Yellow Robin shaft. These are rock chip and mullock samples, not drill results. Still, there has been no previous drilling in the area, and work is now underway to select drill targets.
Ian Prentice, Managing Director, Cosmo Metals
“The work completed over the past few months along the +12km long Star of Bingara to Lone Hand Trend is generating some exciting opportunities in a goldfield that has barely been touched by modern exploration. The parallel lines of lode identified in the Star of Bingara area represent a compelling undrilled scale target for drill testing…”
For investors, the takeaway is a fresh, undrilled target emerging next to a historic mine. It runs in parallel with preparations for drilling at the high grade Cu-Au-Ag Mona prospect.

Ground-truthing the LiDAR: what the mapping found
LiDAR (light detection and ranging) uses laser pulses from an aircraft to map ground surface features. The mapping and sampling were designed to ground truth, or physically check, what the 2025 LiDAR interpretation suggested.
A historic gold “hot spot”
The 2025 survey identified a “hot spot” for historic gold mining, with more than 1,180 historical pits and shafts and 180 line kms of drainage worked for alluvial gold. These sit over a 12km extent broadly parallel to the regional scale Peel Fault.
The historic Star of Bingara gold mine, at the northern end of the trend, operated from around 1873 through to the 1940s. The Yellow Robin and Golden Shamrock workings sit to the west of the Star of Bingara line of lode.
The trend is centred on the Spring Creek prospect. Earlier results there, previously reported (CMO ASX announcement dated 2/06/2026), include rock chips of up to 19 g/t Au and drilling in late 2025 that intersected up to 6m at 9.99g/t Au from 11m.
Parallel or stacked lodes
Mapping ground truthed a series of sub parallel lines of lode, also described as stacked lodes. They sit on structures in the hanging wall of the Peel Fault, striking northwest and generally dipping 60 degrees to the northeast.
The company points to similarities with the Californian “Mother Lode” gold style system. Key features noted include:
- Quartz veins of orogenic origin, commonly pyrite and arsenopyrite bearing
- Fuchsite/mariposite alteration and carbonate in veins
- Dirty carbonate (probable ankerite) within laminated and stockwork milky quartz veins
The company cautions that fuchsite alteration and quartz veining are geological indicators of potential mineralisation style but do not necessarily indicate economic mineralisation. Laboratory assays are what the reported grades are based on.
Results snapshot
Most samples in the Star of Bingara area returned low grades, so SC42 is one standout rather than the norm. The table shows selected results from Table 1 of the announcement.
| Sample ID | Location | Sample type | Au g/t | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SC42 | Small shaft (Yellow Robin) | Grab mullock | 13.6 | Quartz vein, limonite on secondary cracks |
| SC46 | Off “Star of Bingara” dump | Grab mullock | 0.303 | Banded grey and white quartz with disseminated arsenopyrite |
| SC28 | Deep shaft | Grab mullock | 0.316 | Ultramafic poddy chrome, 3 selective grab pieces |
| SC18 | Pit | Grab mullock | 0.277 | Pit containing quartz veining and country rock |
The sampling was selective in nature and may not represent the actual bulk grade of in situ mineralisation at depth. The separate Lone Hand to Specimen Gully table also lists an 8.45 g/t Au result (SG15, Specimen Gully mine dump), though the announcement did not highlight it.
Why surface targets matter to explorers
Before a drill rig turns up, explorers look for the cheapest clues. LiDAR maps old workings, geologists check them on foot, and rock chip sampling shows whether the rock carries gold.
Where results line up with a mapped structure, they help define where to drill first. For investors, an undrilled system of stacked lodes is of interest because drilling is where scale gets tested. Cosmo says the Bingara and Nundle projects have seen only sporadic exploration since the 1970s, with no drilling in about 30 years.

Next steps for Cosmo Metals
The announcement and its JORC table set out the following follow-up work, with no drilling dates, metres or budgets disclosed:
- Define drill targets at Star of Bingara and progress stakeholder engagement in support of regulatory approvals.
- Continue assessing the balance of the Star of Bingara to Lone Hand Trend to identify additional future drill targets.
- Drilling at the Mona Mine VMS target is expected to commence in coming weeks.
- Continue assessing geochemical and geological data at the Plunkett & Cassidy prospect at Antimony Gully, with the aim of defining potential drill targets.
Together, these items point to a growing pipeline of potential near-term catalysts across gold, copper and antimony at Bingara. Drill targets are still being defined, so outcomes remain to be tested.
