Anson Resources Clears Environmental Hurdle Keeping Utah Uranium Drill Plan on Track
Key Takeaways
- Anson Resources completed its environmental baseline survey across the Western and Central blocks of Yellow Cat with zero issues identified, removing the last environmental obstacle before NOI submission to the BLM and UDOGM.
- Phase 2 will twin 3 to 5 historic high-grade holes — including intercepts up to 59,400 ppm U3O8 — to generate the QA/QC data required to convert the historical resource into a maiden JORC 2012 compliant Mineral Resource Estimate.
- Anson's Technical Director physically confirmed historical drill hole locations on-site, directly de-risking the twinning programme design before a single new hole is drilled.
- Initial assay results from Phase 2 drilling are expected to flow systematically through early 2027, with the JORC MRE to follow once modern and historical data are compiled.
- Yellow Cat comprises 151 unpatented federal lode mining claims in good standing, and once a JORC resource is established, Anson will evaluate development, strategic partnership, or other monetisation pathways.
Environmental clearance clears the path for Yellow Cat drilling
Anson Resources (ASX: ASN) has completed its environmental baseline field survey across the Western and Central blocks of the Yellow Cat Uranium Vanadium Project in Utah, USA. The survey identified zero environmental roadblocks, keeping the Phase 2 drilling programme on schedule.
The completed survey feeds directly into the Notice of Intent (NOI) submission to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining (UDOGM), the two regulatory bodies whose approval is required before drill rigs can mobilise for the project.

What the environmental survey covered and why it matters
Before drilling can commence on federal lode mining claims, companies must satisfy environmental and regulatory requirements through an NOI submission. The environmental baseline survey is the foundational input for that process. With the survey complete and no issues identified, the approval pathway remains clear.
The field assessments across all proposed drill pads, access tracks and surrounding buffer zones covered three key areas:
- Special Status Plant Species (SSS): A comprehensive botanical sweep was performed across the project footprint.
- Avian and Raptor Habitat Assessments: Field specialists evaluated cliffs, rocky outcrops and pinon-juniper stands within a half-mile radius of proposed drill sites.
- Hydrological Context: Field mapping confirmed that the shallow surface works do not intercept local ephemeral drainage paths or sensitive riparian zones.
The finalised environmental report will be integrated into the NOI submission forwarded to the BLM and UDOGM. No environmental issues means no regulatory delay risk at this stage, and the mobilisation of Phase 2 drilling contractors remains on schedule.
From historical resource to JORC 2012: the upgrade roadmap
The core objective of Phase 2 is converting Yellow Cat’s existing historical resource into a maiden JORC 2012 compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE). A JORC 2012 MRE is the industry benchmark for reporting mineral resources in Australia. It is the standard that unlocks modern economic studies, attracts institutional interest and underpins project valuations. Historical figures, however high-grade, cannot be used in those studies until they are validated under the JORC 2012 framework.
During the site visit, Anson’s Technical Director physically located historical drill hole indicator poles and two different sizes of drill core on the ground. This confirms the location of the historical drilling and directly de-risks the design of the twinning programme.
Phase 2 will drill 3 to 5 holes twinning historic high-grade holes. This approach provides the twin-assay and QA/QC (quality assurance and quality control) verification data required to upgrade the historical resource footprint into the JORC-compliant MRE. Confirmatory drilling will focus on holes with known grade and thickness intercepts.
Uranium-vanadium mineralisation at Yellow Cat is hosted in thick sandstone belts of the Morrison Formation (Salt Wash Member), which represent ancient paleo-stream channels. Because the mineralisation is horizontal, downhole widths equal true widths, which simplifies the resource estimation process.
The table below presents a representative selection of high-grade historical intercepts from Appendix A of the announcement, illustrating the grade profile that the twinning programme is designed to confirm.
| Hole ID | Block | From (ft) | To (ft) | U3O8 (ppm) |

JORC compliance is the gateway to economic studies, strategic partnerships and project monetisation. This is the milestone Anson is working toward with Phase 2.

Next steps and timeline to resource estimate
With the environmental survey complete, the Phase 2 pathway is as follows:
- Finalise environmental and cultural data, then submit the NOI to the BLM and UDOGM.
- Schedule and mobilise a drill rig to Yellow Cat following final permit approval.
- Complete Phase 2 resource drilling, twinning historic high-grade holes and testing step-out extensions across the primary mineralised zones.
- Ship drill samples to a certified laboratory, with initial assay results expected to flow systematically through early 2027.
- Compile modern drilling data and historical assay validation to calculate a maiden JORC 2012 compliant uranium-vanadium MRE.
On strategy, the announcement states that once a JORC-compliant resource is established, Anson will evaluate the best pathway forward, whether that is continuing to develop the project through investment, pursuing a strategic partnership, or other means of monetising the revised project valuation.
Anson Resources is primarily focused on its Green River and Paradox Lithium Project in Utah. The Yellow Cat programme runs alongside that core asset, with the aim of upgrading an existing historical resource base rather than making a new discovery. The project comprises 151 unpatented federal lode mining claims, all in good standing.
