AuKing Mining Eyes 75% of Greenland Niobium Project With No Upfront Cost
Key Takeaways
- AuKing has a binding Term Sheet to earn up to 75% of the Qeqertaasaq niobium and rare earth project in West Greenland by sole funding €10,000,000 over a maximum of six years.
- Historical drilling returned 84.37m at 0.51% Nb₂O₅ in hole Qa-11 and 5.22m at 2.73% in hole 17584, with surface samples up to 11.8% Nb₂O₅, though none of it is JORC 2012 compliant.
- The earn-in is conditional on ASX confirming Chapter 11 re-compliance is not required, and the €15,000 exclusivity period expires 24 October 2026.
- The staged structure gives AuKing 30% for €3M by September 2028, a further 21% for €3M by 2030, and the final 24% for €4M by 2032.
- Next steps include 3,000-5,000m of resource definition drilling toward an Inferred MRE, while the 15,000m Tundulu program in Malawi remains the primary focus.
Binding Term Sheet Secures Up to 75% of Greenland Niobium Project
AuKing Mining (ASX: AKN) has entered a binding Term Sheet to earn-in up to a 75% interest in the Qeqertaasaq Project, a niobium and rare earth project in West Greenland, with no upfront cost. The 13 October 2026 announcement gives investors a new entry point into Greenland niobium.
The project sits within an exclusive 64 km² exploration licence (MEL 2026-41) covering a 3 x 5km phoscorite–carbonatite complex, about 125 km NNE of Nuuk. AuKing’s earn-in rights relate to conducting exploration activities on this licence. It does not own the project.
The earn-in is conditional on ASX confirming that full quotation re-compliance under Chapter 11 of the ASX Listing Rules will not be required. AuKing will approach ASX for that confirmation.
For investors, this is low-entry-cost exposure to critical minerals while the Tundulu drilling program in Malawi continues. It is a right to spend, not an obligation.
Paul Williams, Managing Director
“One of the key reasons for securing Qeqertaasaq is the significant data base of historical exploration, including more than 10,000m of drilling since the mid-1970’s…”

Historical Results Show High-Grade Niobium From Surface
Every result below is historical. The results have not been reported under the JORC Code 2012, and AuKing has not independently validated them. The company says nothing has come to its attention that causes it to question their accuracy or reliability, and that confidence in them may be reduced when reported under JORC 2012 after further work.
Shallow and deeper drilling intercepts
The strongest intercepts come from Kryolitselskabet Øresund A/S. Its shallow scout holes in 1975 (average depth under 10m) and deeper drilling in 1976 returned the results below, with mineralisation open in all directions in multiple areas.
| Hole ID | Interval | Grade (Nb₂O₅) | From (m) | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17584 | **5.22m** | **2.73%** | **4.15m** | **1975** |
| Qa-11 | **84.37m** | **0.51%** | **13.35m** | **1976** |
| Qa-25 | **53.23m** | **0.51%** | **35m** | **1976** |
| 17593 | **41m** | **0.75%** | **7.2m** | **1976** |
| 17636 | **15.9m** | **0.80%** | **3.6m** | **1975** |
Within those intervals, Qa-11 included 32.43m @ 1.06% Nb₂O₅ and Qa-25 included 15.93m @ 1.11% Nb₂O₅. Surface samples returned up to 11.8% Nb₂O₅ and 12.3% TREO (total rare earth oxides, the combined content of the rare earth elements).
Niobium here sits in pyrochlore, and the announcement describes shallow, pyrochlore-bearing mineralisation across multiple areas of the complex.
Rare earths and tantalum upside
Rare earths and a possible tantalum target add further exploration angles:
- 2010 trenching by NunaMinerals returned a peak of 13.23% TREO, with T04 at 5.14% TREO over 3.19m.
- The principal “Discovery Vein” has been historically reported over more than 750 metres of strike and at least 200 metres down dip, open along strike and at depth.
- Historical float samples of a separate niobium-tantalum style have yielded up to 1% Ta₂O₅. That style has not been evaluated, so it represents a potential tantalum exploration target.
AuKing compares the shallow historical niobium grades favourably with Canada’s Niobec operation, which hosts mineralised envelopes averaging 0.37-0.42% Nb₂O₅. Treat this as the company’s own comparison, drawn from historical data that has yet to be validated.
Why Greenland, and Why Now
Understanding niobium and rare earths
Niobium is a metal found here in the mineral pyrochlore. The announcement links it to a critical-minerals opportunity, and it appears alongside rare earth elements in this carbonatite system.
TREO adds up the oxides of the rare earth elements into one figure, which is why the announcement quotes it. The announcement itself describes Greenland’s critical-mineral endowment as important to Western security and supply chains.
Geopolitical and logistics tailwinds
On 22 September 2026, the US, Denmark and Greenland signed a treaty amending the 1951 US–Denmark Defense of Greenland Agreement. AuKing highlights one feature: investors from states that are not NATO members, NATO partners or EU members face restrictions on control or significant influence in “particularly sensitive sectors”, explicitly including resource extraction. Australia is a NATO partner.
Logistics also stand out. The project is about 18 km from the coast, remains ice- and snow-free with no material seasonal access constraints, and has 20-minute helicopter access year-round from major airports.
Preliminary 2011 testwork by NunaMinerals and IntelliMET LLC reported >80% TREO recovery from coarsely crushed material using mild hydrochloric acid at about 50°C.
The announcement also notes that Greenland Mines’ Sarfartoq project was recently acquired for US$35M. It cautions that such proximate projects do not guarantee AuKing any success in delineating a JORC compliant Mineral Resource at Qeqertaasaq, if at all.

Earn-In Structure and Next Steps
Staged earn-in terms
The counterparty is Xploration Services Greenland A/S, which is unrelated to AuKing. AuKing has paid a non-refundable €15,000 exclusivity payment for a 30-day period expiring 24 October 2026, during which it aims to complete legal and technical due diligence.
AuKing has the right, but not the obligation, to earn up to 75% by sole funding €10,000,000 of exploration over a maximum of six years.
| Stage | Funding | Deadline | Interest Earned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | **€3,000,000** | **30 September 2028** | **30%** |
| Stage 2 | **€3,000,000** | **30 September 2030** | A further **21%** |
| Stage 3 | **€4,000,000** | **30 September 2032** | The final **24%** |
To keep the licence in good standing, AuKing must meet minimum annual expenditure of roughly A$69,000 for 2027 and $215,000 for 2028. A joint Management Committee will oversee activities, with field works managed by Xploration Services Greenland A/S.
At completion of the 75% earn-in, a 10% project equity introduction fee will be allocated to unrelated third parties who introduced the opportunity.
What comes next
The announcement lists these next steps:
- Compilation of historic data to inform the next drilling campaign and metallurgical test work.
- Resource definition drilling (approx. 3,000-5,000m) to establish an Inferred MRE (Mineral Resource Estimate).
- Bench-scale metallurgical sampling and test work, including verification of historic results.
Tundulu in Malawi remains AuKing’s primary focus, with the 15,000m drilling program well underway. The company says it is well funded to support the Qeqertaasaq transaction while continuing that program.
