Metals X Drilling Hints Renison Tin Zone Runs Deeper, Eyeing 250m Resource Extension
Key Takeaways
- Ringrose drilling identified a previously unrecognised offset, with S1778 hitting 5.4m at 2.41% Sn from 323m and suggesting mineralisation is open at depth toward the Pine Hill Granite.
- Ring River extends Renison South Bassett mineralisation by 200m, headlined by 1.8m at 7.13% Sn from 374m in hole S1782.
- Both targets sit within the existing mining lease about 700m from underground workings, so development could need little or no additional surface infrastructure.
- An 8,876m Ringrose program is anticipated from Q4 2026 to test a potential 250m depth extension, with Ring River drilling due to finish in Q2 2027.
- Extensions have not yet been assessed, and Metals X holds only 50% of Renison, so resource impact remains unconfirmed.
Metals X confirms high-grade tin drilling results at Renison
Metals X (ASX: MLX) has released near mine exploration results from the Renison Tin Operations (Renison), in which it holds a 50% equity interest. Renison is managed by Bluestone Mines Tasmania Joint Venture Pty Ltd (the Manager), and all results below are on a 100% basis.
The update covers two targets. At Ringrose, 11 surface diamond drill holes returned 17 additional significant intersections for 3,946m of drilling, with 3 holes pending assay results.
At Ring River, 12 holes delivered 7 significant intersections, with drilling of about 5,000m year to date. The source quotes 5,047m in its highlights and 5,048m in its detail section, so this article uses the rounded figure.
Both areas sit within the existing mining lease, which management says supports the case for a long mine life. For investors in this tin exploration story, the question is how far the mineralisation extends.

Ringrose drilling reveals offset pointing to depth potential
New intersections
Recent drilling identified a previously unrecognised offset in the mineralisation, suggesting Ringrose is open at depth towards the Pine Hill Granite. In plain terms, the tin-bearing zone appears to continue deeper rather than stop where earlier drilling suggested.
The highlights list these new offset results:
- S1778: 5.4m at 2.41% Sn from 323m
- S1778: 2.6m at 1.98% Sn from 339m
- S1777: 2.7m at 1.22% Sn from 332m
Note that Appendix A of the announcement lists these same intersections with different interval widths (6.0m, 2.9m and 3.0m), while the grades and start depths match. This article uses the highlight figures throughout.
Ringrose is located approximately 700m south of existing Renison mine development. It has continued to expand the Mineral Resource inventory since the 2022 discovery hole S1671, which intersected 26.93m at 4.57% Sn.
Tin mineralisation is hosted within the east-west striking, south dipping Acacia Structure. Additional Ringrose material is already included in the 2026 Renison Mineral Resource inventory (Metals X ASX release 29 June 2026).
What are tin intersections and why does an offset matter?
An intersection is the stretch of drill core where assays detect mineralisation. “Sn” is the chemical symbol for tin, so 2.41% Sn means the sample contained 2.41% tin by weight.
Higher grades and longer intervals generally point to richer mineralisation, though a single hole shows only a narrow slice of a deposit.
An offset occurs when a mineralised zone is shifted, often by faulting, so it appears to end when it actually continues in a different position. Identifying one can turn an apparent dead end into a new drilling target.
If follow-up drilling confirms continuity, it could add to the Mineral Resource and, over time, support mine life. The source notes that assessment of extensions has not been completed to date.
Ring River extends Renison South Bassett mineralisation by 200m
Exploration diamond drilling at Ring River during Q2 2025, targeting downhole electromagnetic (DHEM) conductors, identified significant mineralisation 500m south of existing mine development at South Bassett. Subsequent surface drilling at Ring River and underground drilling at South Bassett indicate a likely continuation between the two.
The company says recent Ring River results align with and extend Renison South Bassett mineralisation by 200m. The mineralised trend is closely associated with EM conductors identified in 2025 and with 2026 DHEM and Fixed-Loop Electromagnetic (FLEM) surveys.
The seven Ring River highlight results are below:
| Hole | Interval | Sn grade | From depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| S1782 | 1.8m | 7.13% | 374m |
| S1780 | 1.5m | 4.62% | 350m |
| S1772 | 2.9m | 1.82% | 171.8m |
| S1779 | 3.2m | 1.52% | 334.9m |
| S1779 | 1.8m | 2.15% | 375m |
| S1768 | 2.7m | 1.36% | 374m |
| S1782 | 0.9m | 3.55% | 306.9m |
These are the highlight figures. Appendix A lists different interval widths for the same holes (for example, S1782 at 2.0m for the 7.13% result), so treat the widths as indicative.
Brett Smith, Executive Director
“These new high-grade results, reinforce the potential of area to add to the long mine life of the Renison operations. As previously stated, being within the existing mining lease and only 700 metres from existing underground workings the area can be developed with little or no additional surface infrastructure and at attractive extraction costs.”

Next drilling programs and what to watch
Two programs are lined up:
- Ringrose: A surface diamond drilling program of 8,876m is anticipated to start in Q4 2026. It is designed to test the offset mineralisation down to the granite, potentially extending the resource another 250m at depth, and is expected to be completed by Q3 2028.
- Ring River: The current program is expected to be completed in Q2 2027. It is designed to test existing significant intersections from previous drilling and DHEM and FLEM conductor plates.
For you as an investor, this means a multi-year run of drilling news, with further results likely to follow. The words “potentially” and “anticipated” matter here, because the company states that assessment of extensions has not been completed to date.
Metals X has 50% ownership of Australia’s largest tin operation through the Renison Operation (Bluestone Mines Tasmania JV) in Tasmania.
