PLC Resources Finds Gold-Targeting Geology at Rochefort With Assays Due in Six Weeks
Key Takeaways
- PLC Resources has completed an eight-hole, 1,896m follow-up RC drilling program at Rochefort, with all samples now at the laboratory and gold assays expected within four to six weeks of 30 September 2026.
- Geological logging confirmed sheared zones hosting pyrrhotite and pyrite within the target fractionated dolerite — the precise host-rock and structural setting PLC's exploration model requires for gold concentration via sulphidation.
- A notable highlight interval at 170–171m in hole 26ANRC013 recorded 1% pyrrhotite and 1% pyrite (visual) within a quartz vein, and previous PLC drilling has associated pyrrhotite-bearing intervals with elevated gold grades.
- In parallel, PLC is advancing a syncline and cross-cutting structural corridor at Abbotts North, with October 2026 field reconnaissance planned and Programs of Work for aircore drilling already approved — removing regulatory lead time before drilling can commence.
- The Abbotts Greenstone Belt hosts New Murchison Gold's Garden Gully project carrying 353,700 oz Au at 2.4 g/t, though nearby mineralisation is not necessarily indicative of results within PLC's tenements.
Rochefort drilling delivers the geology PLC was looking for
PLC Resources (ASX: PLC) has completed its eight-hole, 1,896 m follow-up Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling program at the Rochefort Gold Prospect, part of the Abbotts North Project in the Murchison region of Western Australia. The program, which ran from 11 September 2026, was designed to step out from the May 2026 maiden program — a five-hole, 1,020 m campaign that returned low-level but consistent gold anomalism, with a best intercept of 75 m @ 0.036 g/t Au, and geochemical indicators suggesting those holes may have tested the margin of a larger system.
The maiden Rochefort results, which established the initial gold anomalism and geochemical indicators that justified this follow-up campaign, set the geological baseline against which the new sulphide-bearing shear zone observations are now being interpreted.
The headline geological outcome from the follow-up program is encouraging: sheared zones containing pyrrhotite and pyrite have been logged within the target fractionated dolerite, which is precisely the host-rock and structural setting PLC’s exploration model is looking for. All samples are now at the laboratory, with gold assays expected within approximately four to six weeks.
The geology is confirming the model. The grade results will determine what it means.

What the drilling found — and why it matters
The geological ingredients of a dolerite-hosted gold system
Geological logging across the eight holes recorded four key observations that collectively confirm the target setting PLC’s model requires:
- Shear zones hosting pyrrhotite ± pyrite within the dolerite package, occurring as wispy and fine-grained sulphide along shear fabric and in cross-cutting fractures
- Magnetite-bearing intervals in 26ANRC009, consistent with the differentiated (fractionated) character of the intrusion
- Very fine-grained mafic units, interpreted as either chilled margins of the intrusion or internal basalt units, as recorded in other fractionated dolerites in Western Australia
- Chlorite, epidote, and silica alteration with quartz veining recorded across multiple holes
Visual sulphide estimates across the program range from approximately 0.1–1% (visual estimates only). A notable highlight interval is 170–171 m in hole 26ANRC013, where logging recorded 1% pyrrhotite and 1% pyrite (visual) within a quartz vein.
Critically, a review of PLC’s previous drilling indicates that intervals previously logged as containing pyrrhotite are associated with elevated gold grades — described in the announcement as “an important vector for ongoing interpretation” of gold mineralisation controls at Rochefort.
One important caution: visual sulphide estimates are not a proxy for laboratory assay results. Whether gold is present in these zones will only be determined by the pending assays.
Why dolerite-hosted gold systems matter — the Kalgoorlie connection
A fractionated dolerite is an igneous rock body that has undergone chemical differentiation as it cooled, concentrating certain elements — including those associated with gold-bearing fluids — toward specific zones within the intrusion. When mineralising fluids later move through such a rock, particularly along shear zones, they interact with the iron sulphide mineral pyrrhotite and can produce pyrite in its place. This exchange process is known as sulphidation.
PLC’s exploration model centres on exactly this mechanism: reduced magnetic response zones may represent areas where pyrrhotite-bearing rock has undergone sulphidation during interaction with gold-bearing mineralising fluids. The shear zones identified in the current drilling provide the structural pathways for those fluids to have moved and deposited gold. Importantly, this sulphidation process is the principal gold-deposition mechanism in several major Yilgarn dolerite-hosted deposits, including those hosted by the Golden Mile Dolerite at Kalgoorlie.
What this tells you as an investor is that PLC is not simply finding sulphides at random. It is finding sulphides in the precise structural and lithological setting where its model predicts gold should concentrate. The pending assays will test whether that prediction holds.
Two-track strategy advances while the market waits for assays
In parallel with Rochefort, PLC is advancing targets on a newly interpreted syncline and cross-cutting structural corridor at Abbotts North. The corridor sits within the Abbotts Greenstone Belt — the same belt that hosts New Murchison Gold’s (ASX: NMG) Garden Gully Gold Project to the south-west, which carries a Mineral Resource of 4.53 Mt @ 2.4 g/t Au for 353,700 oz Au (Crown Prince component: 222,900 oz Au). It is important to note that mineralisation on nearby tenements, including NMG’s, is not necessarily indicative of mineralisation within PLC’s tenements.
The airborne magnetics survey that identified the syncline and cross-cutting structural corridor mapped a large number of fluid movement and entrapment structures across the Abbotts North tenure, providing the geophysical foundation for the reconnaissance and aircore drilling program now being advanced in parallel with Rochefort.
Planned work on the corridor comprises four items:
- Detailed interpretation of synform and fold geometry, including the cross-cutting structure, to rank drill targets
- Assessment of the potential for structurally controlled orogenic gold mineralisation within PLC’s tenure along the corridor
- On-ground geological reconnaissance in October 2026 to prioritise targets and select the appropriate first-pass method
- Regional aircore drilling of priority targets, for which Programs of Work are already approved
The approved Programs of Work mean PLC can move quickly once reconnaissance is complete, without waiting on regulatory lead times before drilling.
Director’s perspective
Simon Phillips, Executive Director
“We’ve now completed our follow-up drilling at Rochefort, and the logging shows the geology we set out to find: sheared, sulphide-bearing zones within the fractionated dolerite. That’s encouraging, but the assay results are required to determine whether the system is mineralised with gold. We expect those results within the next four to six weeks. At the same time, we’re moving straight into ground-truthing the new syncline and structural corridor identified from our airborne magnetics. The survey highlighted a large number of fluid movement and entrapment structures at Abbotts, all of which provide multiple independent pathways for a discovery to be made.”
The dual-track approach — awaiting Rochefort assays while simultaneously advancing the regional corridor — means PLC is not sitting idle between results. Both work streams carry independent discovery potential.

What investors should watch for next
The key catalysts over the coming weeks are clear:
- Gold assay results from Rochefort — expected approximately four to six weeks from 30 September 2026; this is the primary near-term catalyst and will determine whether the sulphide-bearing shear zones carry economic gold
- Multi-element analysis to follow assay results, which PLC will integrate with lithological and structural data to assess pathfinder element associations and guide further work
- October 2026 field reconnaissance on the syncline and structural corridor at Abbotts North, ahead of aircore drilling
- Further drilling at Rochefort, contingent on the outcomes of assay and multi-element analysis
PLC’s approach is model-driven: the company will integrate gold, multi-element, lithological, and structural data before determining next steps at Rochefort. The geological ingredients are now confirmed across eight holes. The assays will determine whether this becomes a discovery story.
