AuMEGA Metals Drills First Ever Holes at Isle aux Morts With Assays Due Soon
Key Takeaways

- Seven holes tested the intrusive core, western flank, and granite contact zone, with two deeper holes extended to 351m and 372m to probe the interpreted magmatic-hydrothermal system.
- The Early Bird target — located 1.2 kilometres west of the BP deposit and identified as the highest gold-in-till result from last year's surficial geochemical survey — received its first-ever drill hole.
- The rig has already mobilised to Bunker Hill, where three priority targets are being tested: the Southeast Base Metals Target, the Branch Fault Corridor, and Bunker Hill West.
- AuMEGA holds a 110-kilometre land package along the Cape Ray-Valentine Shear Zone, the same structure hosting Equinox Gold's multi-million-ounce Valentine Gold Mine, with an existing resource of 450,000 oz Indicated at 2.25 g/t and 160,000 oz Inferred at 1.44 g/t.
First-ever drilling at the Isle aux Morts Granite complete as AuMEGA advances multi-target campaign
AuMEGA Metals (ASX: AAM | TSXV: AUM) has completed the first-ever drilling at the Isle aux Morts Granite (IAMG) along the Cape Ray Shear Zone in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The initial programme totalled 9 holes and approximately 2,087 metres drilled across the IAMG and the adjoining Cape Ray West target area, with assays pending on all holes and results expected progressively over coming weeks.
The programme tested several geological concepts, including structurally controlled gold mineralisation and the potential for an intrusion-related magmatic-hydrothermal system. With the rig now mobilised to Bunker Hill and a planned return to Cape Ray West in mid-Q4 2026, the company has a clear pipeline of near-term drilling catalysts ahead.

What was drilled and why it matters
Isle aux Morts Granite — testing the intrusive core
Seven of the nine holes targeted the IAMG, with the programme designed to test the intrusive core, the western flank, and the interpreted contact between the granite and surrounding sedimentary rocks. Most holes were drilled to approximately 200 metres depth. Two holes targeting the core of the intrusion were extended to 351m and 372m to provide deeper geological coverage of the interpreted magmatic-hydrothermal system.
The geological case for the IAMG rests on a demagnetised central domain associated with anomalous bismuth, molybdenum, and copper from till sampling. These geochemical signatures form the basis of the magmatic-hydrothermal interpretation. Follow-up drilling is planned for mid-Q4 2026, including potential deeper testing of priority targets within and adjacent to the IAMG.
Window Glass Hill and Early Bird
The remaining two holes tested separate Cape Ray West targets with distinct geological rationales:
- Window Glass Hill: One extensional hole testing the Mineral Resource to the northeast and a possible repeat of an ore shoot at depth.
- Early Bird: The first-ever hole into this new gold target, located 1.2 kilometres west of the company’s BP deposit. Identified from last year’s surficial geochemical survey, Early Bird delivered the highest gold-in-till result of that survey. The target is defined by an interpreted northeast-plunging antiform hinge intersected by subparallel northeast-striking shear zones, with coincident zones of magnetic destruction, anomalous gold and base metals in till, and mapped chalcopyrite-bearing quartz veins at surface.
Assays from both Window Glass Hill and Early Bird are pending.
Understanding magmatic-hydrothermal gold systems — why this target type excites explorers
An intrusion-related magmatic-hydrothermal system forms when hot, mineralised fluids expelled from a cooling igneous intrusion migrate outward and interact with surrounding rocks, depositing metals along the way. These systems are considered geologically “fertile” because the heat and chemistry of the intrusion can concentrate gold and associated metals across a broad area around the intrusive body.
Explorers use pathfinder elements — metals that tend to travel with gold in these systems — to map where mineralisation may have occurred. At the IAMG, anomalous bismuth, molybdenum, and copper in till sampling act as exactly these kinds of indicators, pointing to potential magmatic-hydrothermal activity in the granite’s core.
The Isle aux Morts Granite gold target was first flagged through systematic geophysical and geochemical surveys that identified the demagnetised core and associated pathfinder element anomalism, establishing the geological rationale that now underpins the initial drill programme.
If assay results from the IAMG holes confirm mineralisation, it would represent a new target type on AuMEGA’s land package, complementing the existing orogenic gold resource and potentially expanding the scale of what the project can deliver.
Rig moves to Bunker Hill as the campaign continues
With the Cape Ray West programme complete, the drill rig has already been mobilised to Bunker Hill and drilling has commenced. The company will test three priority target areas:
- Southeast Base Metals Target: A previously undrilled polymetallic target defined by an east-northeast striking high-tenor lead anomaly coincident with silver, copper, and zinc till anomalism.
- Branch Fault Corridor: A structurally controlled gold target associated with a prominent second-order fault corridor containing demagnetised fault jogs and splays, supported by coherent gold-in-till anomalism with coincident silver, lead, and antimony.
- Bunker Hill West: A gold target where secondary structures intersect the principal Cape Ray Shear Zone, characterised by prominent structural disruption, demagnetisation, and fault splays.
Drill sequencing will remain flexible to allow the company to respond to geological observations as drilling progresses. Drilling at Bunker Hill will continue for as long as seasonal weather and operating conditions permit, with a return to Cape Ray West expected in mid-Q4 2026.
Sam Pazuki, Managing Director and CEO
“Completing the first-ever drilling at the Isle aux Morts Granite is an important milestone for AuMEGA. This program tested multiple geological concepts across the intrusive core, its margins and the surrounding structural setting, while also advancing the new Early Bird gold target and extending our work at Window Glass Hill.
“We now look forward to receiving the assay results and integrating them with our geological, geophysical and geochemical datasets to refine the next phase of drilling. In the meantime, the rig has moved to Bunker Hill, where we are testing a pipeline of high-priority gold and polymetallic targets across another underexplored part of our extensive land package. Following this drilling, we expect to return to Cape Ray for additional drilling with the potential of drilling a much deeper hole into the Isle aux Morts Granite.”
